KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Angels continue to surge while the Royals continue to stumble.
Anaheim rapped out 14 hits and capitalized on a couple of Royals' errors to take an 11-3 victory Friday night at Kauffman Stadium. Starter Kevin Appier worked six innings in improving his record to 7-7. Jeff Suppan dropped to 7-7 by taking the loss.

Anaheim is now 53-35 while the Royals dropped to 33-54.

The Angels never looked back after enjoying two-run rallies in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Against Appier, the Royals had managed to break on top in the second inning thanks to Joe Randa's solo home run. Randa hit his ninth of the year deep into the Angels' bullpen beyond the left-field fence.

But the Angels came right back to take the lead in the third. Bengie Molina led off with a single to center off Suppan. Adam Kennedy then grounded a single to right, setting up a first-and-third situation. David Eckstein produced a sacrifice fly to right, as rightfielder Aaron's Guiel's strong throw to the plate was barely too late to get a sliding Molina. Suppan got Darin Erstad on a bouncer to the mound, but Tim Salmon's single to center scored Kennedy for a 2-1 Anaheim lead.

Royals center fielder Carlos Beltran had attempted to keep the game tied by fielding Salmon's hit and throwing to the plate where the ball beat Kennedy. But catcher Brent Mayne couldn't field a tricky hop and Kennedy bowled him over.

Some poor defense by the Royals enabled Anaheim to take a 4-1 lead in the fourth. After a leadoff walk to Troy Glaus, Suppan induced Brad Fullmer to hit a bouncer to second. But Carlos Febles tried a backhanded flip to second and the ball sailed into left field well over Neifi Perez's head. That put men at second and third. An RBI bouncer by Molina and a wild pitch that enabled Fullmer to score, gave Anaheim a 4-1 lead.

The Royals cut into their deficit in the fourth thanks to RBI doubles by Mike Sweeney and Randa. But the Angels got those runs back in the fifth as Eckstein and Salmon singled and Garret Anderson delivered a two-run double to make it 6-3.

Kansas City's defense continued to suffer in the seventh as the Angels broke it open after an error by Sweeney at first. With one on and one out, Anderson hit a sharp grounder right at Sweeney. He decided to go for the lead runner, but hit Salmon in the back with the throw to second. The Angels went on to score three runs and take a 9-3 lead.

Anderson homered off Royals' reliever Brad Voyles to make it 10-3 in the ninth. Scott Spiezio added an RBI double.
