Can any of the mets fans out there tell me why Valentine doesn't walk to the mound to pull his own pitchers out of the game?

I've never noticed that I guess he rather the pitching coach make the pitching moves:hmm:

That's not uncommon. It happens quite often. I believe Leo Mazzone does it for the Braves.

Actually I've been watching this and Bobby V. is the only manager I know who sends his pitching coach. Bobby C. always saunters his angry looking butt out there. If nobody knows, then nobody knows I guess. Thanks.

Trust me. It's not uncommon. I've been watching baseball for almost 40 years, and BV is absolutely not the only manager who does it.

I've been watching baseball for twenty years (sorry, only half as long) and I've never seen Bobby Cox do it. It just kind of bothers me and I think managers could at least get off their asses and do that. Your pitching coach is for conversations with your pitcher, calming him down, giving the bullpen time to warm up;etc. It's just an opinion is all. What I really wanted to know is why. Not who or when or anything like that. If no one knows the answer, then no one knows it. Thanks.

Alright, so I guess I was wrong about Bobby Cox (sue me), but I do know that other managers do it.

When Bobby V was managing the Rangers, he went to pull a pitcher* out of the game and the guy yelled at him and gave him a hard time a refused to leave the game. THAT is why Bobby never pulls the pitchers himself.
*I'm not positive, but I think that pitcher may have been this ne'er-do-well named Ryan. Nolan Ryan.

IMO, that is a stupid reason not to go to the mound....You are the manager and its your team....Any player yelling at you should be disciplined......
This happend the other night with one of the Expos pitcher as he would not give the ball up to Robinson....I thought Robinson was gonna kill him in the dugout....
Personally I dont see the big deal either way...I have seen some managers pull themselve and others use their pitching coach.....
Who cares:confused:

Well.. I think the pitching coach should be the one to take the pithcer out. he is the one dealing with the pitchers so he should be the one to do it imo.

The one time that I know BV went to the mound himself was in 2000 with Grant Roberts disastrous first outing in the big leagues (the game the Mets managed to win in spite of him). I remember thinking that BV doesn't do that to often and that it was a nice gesture.
