SAN DIEGO -- Ryan Klesko had a triple and double among his four hits and scored three times as San Diego beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 Friday night, the Padres' fifth straight win over the defending World Series champions.
The Padres won their fourth straight overall, matching their season high.
Although the Padres are last in the NL West, 16 games behind the Diamondbacks, they're a combined 10-6 against Arizona (5-2) and second-place Los Angeles (5-4). The Padres were coming off a two-game sweep at Dodger Stadium.
With Klesko already having hit a triple, double and single, the crowd of 27,803 gave him a nice ovation as he batted with one out in the seventh, needing a homer to become the first player to hit for the cycle in the Padres' 34-year history.
But Klesko was jammed by lefty Greg Swindell and beat out an infield single to shortstop to finish 4-for-4. He scored on Bubba Trammell's two-run single.
Trammell was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Klesko hit an RBI triple into the Diamondbacks' bullpen in the right-field corner in the first inning and scored on Phil Nevin's single. Klesko doubled leading off the third into the Padres' bullpen in the left-field corner and eventually scored on Trammell's sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead.
Klesko singled to center leading off the fifth but was stranded.
Tom Lampkin drove in San Diego's other run, on an infield single in the second.
Bobby Jones (6-5) won for the third time in four decisions and for the second time against Arizona this year. He allowed one run and nine hits in seven innings, struck out three and walked none.
Jones, backed by three double plays, gave up David Dellucci's homer to right with two outs in the second.
Miguel Batista (4-7) lost his fourth straight decision, over six starts, after allowing four runs and eight hits in six innings. He struck out one and walked two. His last win was 9-5 over Mike Mussina and the New York Yankees on June 12.
