DENVER (AP) -- Colorado Rockies reliever Todd Jones has received a $1,000 fine for throwing at Seattle Mariners second baseman Brett Boone two weeks ago. ADVERTISEMENT
Jones received a letter from baseball vice president Bob Watson on Thursday, which said he was being fined for intentionally throwing at Boone's head on June 28 at Seattle's Safeco Field.
Boone got out of the way of the pitch and said after the game that he didn't think Jones was throwing at him.
Watson issued the ruling after reviewing umpire Brian Gorman's report, which said that the pitch caused both benches to clear.
Jones and Colorado manager Clint Hurdle both deny that Jones threw at Boone and neither recalled the benches clearing.
``There are so many fireballs that spin off of that thing,'' Hurdle said Friday. ``Number one, he got fined for throwing a ball. Number two, there was mention of a bench-clearing incident, which I guess I missed.
``I think there are some issues there that need to be resolved. I don't think they got good information.''
Jones said he plans to have the players' association appeal the fine.
