The White Sox reassigned pitching coach Nardi Contreras Monday, replacing him with minor league pitching coordinator Don Cooper.

Cooper, 46, has been in the Sox organization for 15 seasons beginning in 1988 and has the minor-league pitching coordinator for the last six. Among the players he helped get to the major leagues were present Sox pitchers Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland and Dan Wright.

Cooper also was the White Sox interim pitching for about two months in 1995. He pitched for three major leagues teams (Minnesota, Toronto, and the Yankees) from 1981 to 1985, going 1-6 with a 5.25 ERA in 44 games.

Contreras, 50, was hired as pitching coach on May 23, 1998. This year’s Sox staff ranks eighth in the AL with a 4.79 ERA.

Contreras has also served as pitching coach for the Yankees and Mariners. His new duties in the organization were not announced.

Too bad...Contreras will only be one of many to hit the bricks before its over.
Manuel, Kenny Williams, Frank Thomas and a bunch of pitchers will be (or should be) gone before next year..
I hope theres a truck backing up around Comiskey Park...Some great talent here but too many negatives....

i am glad nardy is gone. he never did anything for any other team so i dont know why they expected anything from him for the sox. Kenny Williams should be next to go. In less than 2 years, he has had countless blunders:
Trading for David Wells
Trading 3 good arms for ritchie
Trading for the wrong player in the Baldwin trade
plus a ton more

Gary Pettis needs to catch the next train out of town too. This baserunning sucks!
