NEW YORK -- Montreal Expos star right fielder Vladimir Guerrero came out of Tuesday night's game against the New York Mets with a bruised left knee after crashing into the wall to make a catch in the sixth inning.
Guerrero robbed Jeromy Burnitz of an extra-base hit with a spectacular catch. He remained in the game, but went back to the clubhouse with his bat and glove after the inning and didn't return.
"He just banged his knee up," manager Frank Robinson said after Montreal's 4-3 loss. "He should be all right tomorrow."
Guerrero was replaced in the field by his brother, Wilton, in the seventh inning.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Burnitz hit a drive into the right-field corner. Guerrero sprinted over and made a leaping grab as he hit the wall.
Losing Guerrero for any period of time would be a big blow to the slumping Expos, who lost their fifth straight game to fall two games below .500. Montreal has slipped into a tie for fifth place in the wild card standings.
Guerrero went 0-for-2 with an intentional walk Tuesday. He is hitting .329 with 26 homers, 71 RBIs and 22 steals. The four-time All-Star leads the National League with 223 total bases.
The Expos were already playing without their other All-Star, second baseman Jose Vidro, who sat out his second straight game with a stiff back.
