Whats up with this guy? I hear he is tearing up triple A and looking dominant. You guys think he can be the real deal and be a starter next season? Im tired of holding out hope for these guys but everyone loves this kid and obviously Phillips feels the same because he said Reyes, Huber, Heilman, Wright are untouchables. So at least we have knowledge they wont be traded this off season. I personally feel Reyes should be up here next year and Heilman as the #5 guy
Too bad Ordonez is here for one more year i really wish the mets would just eat half his salary and ship him off elsewhere
by the way Jose reyes today 4-4 2 stolen bases and a double

Reyes isn't ready yet. They're teaching him to switch-hit, and he's just not ready to come up. No one is going to want Ordonez until the end of this year at the earliest (his contract is too big for what he gives us), so why not let the kid continue his development without all the pressure?
The last time we brought up a couple of kids too early, we regretted it. Their names were Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry. Remember them? ;)

I'd rather have Reyes up here learning to hit the league instead of having Ordonez. Like you said though we are stuck with rey until after the 2003 season. Reyes is gonna be a good player every level so far of each minor league system he has been to , he has torn up. He might be promoted to Norfolk by august at the rate he is going. Too bad we have Rey-o here
I looked up Heilman's stats for last nigths game and he got bombed giving up 5 runs so obviously he needs more time but by next year he should help us out

You can't bring a 19-year-old up before he's ready. It would be cruel.

I think it would be cool to have him up with the mets at such a young age , but then again why should age matter? If he can hit he should be up here . He could learn so much from Alfonzo and Alomar. Those guys would be a good influence on him and its exciting to watch young guys learning to be major leaguers. I think he can put up similar numbers that Soriano did in his first year. I don't think he has the power of Soriano but he has alot of speed and hits a ton of x-tra basehits  Plus i met him in person in may and he is a cool guy

Darryl Strawberry
Dwight Gooden
2 kids brought up before they should have been.
I've seen Reyes play. He's good, but he's not ready. A playoff contender cannot risk having a learn-while-doing 19-year-old on its roster.

Oh no i dont want to bring him up now i mean for the start of next year. He is stepping up his game , his defense is all ready major league quality as stated by many scouts. The kid is more advanced than you think , he is a quick learner and his switch hitting abilities make him so versatile. How would you feel if he was a september callup? Id like to see him up here in september and my one wsih would be that he plays like timo did in 2000 and steals away a roster spot and turns out to be a little spark plug ala mora and timo

I agree neither are ready yet...I would bring up Reyes at some point next season to face major league pitching and when Rey is a FA in 2004 I would say adios Rey, hola Reyes:biggrin:
Straw and Gooden were not brought up too early IMO...They both won rookie of the year awards.....Personal problems screwed up their careers and who knows whether keeping them in the minors longer would have made a difference.....
Gooden and Straw were good till they turned 29......
