Giants manager Dusty Baker says Barry Bonds is not expected to return to the lineup until the team arrives in Pittsburgh for a series that starts Friday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in its Monday editions.
Bonds
Bonds, who is nursing a strained right hamstring, will have missed 12 starts by that point.
Bonds clearly has more of a say on when he will return than the other injured Giants, Baker told the Chronicle.
"He's Barry," Baker told the newspaper. "Doesn't Michael (Jordan) sort of call his own shots? If Joe Montana said he wasn't ready, would you question it?"
Also on the Giants' injury front, right fielder Reggie Sanders (right hamstring) probably will return to the lineup after a six-game absence Tuesday night in Philadelphia alongside center fielder Kenny Lofton, who was acquired Sunday from the Chicago White Sox.
Catcher Benito Santiago is expected back Tuesday or Wednesday after undergoing a minor eye procedure.
