ARLINGTON, Texas -- Stuck on 299 career home runs since July 5, David Justice freely acknowledges thinking about it. He thought about it in the eighth inning Sunday night, when he popped up against Dave Burba.
"I thought that could be 300 right there," Justice said. "I've been thinking about it and hoping I get it."
Justice got it the next inning, a two-run shot off Todd Van Poppel to cap an eight-run ninth inning in the Oakland Athletics' 12-2 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Justice is the 95th player, 19th active, to reach 300 career home runs.
"I never thought I would ever be able to hit 300 home runs," Justice said. "You always have periods when you think you'll never hit another one. Then when you hit one, it reminds you that you can still hit them. Shoot, in'93, I never thought I'd get another hit I was going so bad.
"It does feel good to get that milestone."
