Not a bad pickup at all by Oakland. Even though they really don't need another lefty in the pen with Mike Venafro, and Mike Magnante, he still is a very good releiver, and also can be used to block other contenders from getting him. They gave up nothing for him(Marshall McDougal :hmm: ), so he can't hurt.

Venafro's gone; he's not on the 25-man roster anymore. And I don't think Magnante's been that great lately, has he?

So, IMO, it was a great trade.

McDougall, 23, gained national acclaim by homering six times in a game while at Florida State in 1999. He hit .419-28-106 and was the College World Series MVP that year, but wasn't drafted until the 26th round by the Red Sox and reluctantly returned for his senior season. He signed with Oakland as a ninth-rounder in 2000. He hit .303-9-56 in 84 games at Double-A Midland this year, and has torched lefthanders for a .435 average. McDougall has played games at every infield position this year, seeing the most action at third base. He's not a spectacular athlete by any means at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, but he generally gets the job done.

Oh, okay. Thanks. That explains it.

It looks like Oakland got the best end of the deal by far, then. Nice move.
