Ha ha, the Rockies have more Mets on their team than the Mets do...
Mets acquire John Thomson from Colorado in five-player deal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press
NEW YORK (AP) _ The New York Mets bolstered their pitching staff Wednesday, acquiring right-hander John Thomson from Colorado in a five-player deal that sent outfielder Jay Payton to the Rockies.
The Mets also got outfielder Mark Little from the Rockies and sent right-hander Mark Corey and minor league outfielder Robert Stratton to Colorado.
Also before Wednesday's non-waiver trade deadline, the Mets acquired right-handers Steve Reed and Jason Middlebrook from San Diego for lefty Bobby M. Jones, right-hander Josh Reynolds and outfielder Jay Bay.
``We've addressed our pitching needs,'' Mets general manager Steve Phillips said. ``Steve Reed is not the sexiest name out there among the relief corps, but he's probably the guy pitching the best.''
Reed, 36 went 2-4 with a 1.98 ERA in 40 relief appearances for San Diego this season.
Thomson will replace the struggling Jeff D'Amico in New York's rotation. D'Amico allowed five runs in three innings of a 16-3 loss to Houston on Tuesday night, dropping to 5-9 with a 5.09 ERA on the season.
``If he had thrown an ace, we might have felt a little differently,'' Mets general manager Steve Phillips said about making a deal for a starter. ``It certainly reinforced our decision.''
Thomson is 7-8 with a 4.88 ERA for the Rockies but should benefit from a move away from hitter-friendly Coors Field.
Payton, once a top prospect for the Mets, overcame a slew of injuries early in his career and is hitting .284 with eight homers and 31 RBIs this season. Payton has been especially hot of late with a .365 average his last 18 games.
Corey was 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA in 12 relief appearances for the Mets this season. He also had a seizure on June 26 shortly after smoking marijuana.
Little will provide outfield depth for the Mets. He batted .200 with no homers and five RBIs in 105 at-bats for the Rockies this season.

Thompson has beaten us 2 out of 2 times.
You can have Payton and Corey -- with my blessings.

 I don't know what to think yet. Ive been looking at Thomsons numbers and they are awful:confused: even worse on the road .
Little should be released or sent to the minors. The big thing was giving up on Payton, he has been hot for the last month and half but we've seen that before .Giving up Corey and Stratton is no big deal those guys are just horrible .
Thomson? again i would rather have Livan hernandez

well you know what maybe we need guys who have been awful. We had guys who were supposed to be good and havent been for us so maybe the awful ones will be good for us. I think we should of traded Payton before when I think it was bigger then what we got but oh well. I am just glad payton is NOT on the Mets anymore

Last year Phillips couldn't give Payton away. But he had a good July, so he became marketable. I've never been a big fan of his. Way too many mental mistakes. My friends and I usually refer to him as Double Play Jay or Buffy the Rally Killer.
As for Stratton, I saw him during Spring Training and liked him.
But the bullpen needs help, so I guess these were good moves. I mean, it's not like Steve Phillips traded away popular players like Turk Wendell, Todd Pratt, Rick Reed.
Oh wait, yeah, he did that too. :ohno:

I kinda have mixed emotions about this trade...I liked Payton...Kinda one of those guys that just grew on me....I guess it doesnt matter either way but I will kinda miss him...
One thing though that I would disagree on with MS CLEO is that Stratton sucks.....I am very familar with him watching him grow in the Florida State League with St. Lucie and this kid is a horse!!!
The one thing he needs to work on is his batting average and get a better eye at the plate...He led the FSL a few years ago when he was down here in HR's and was currently 4th in the International League in HR's...The guy can flat out pound the ball...He has good potential.....
Just wanted to clear that up:biggrin:

Well with the way Paton swings the bat you might expect a 20 HR season one of these days with him bieing in Coors.

Pedro used to pitch at Coors, and Pedro's pitching awesomely here. I'm sure he can give Thompson some pointers.
Every single person I've heard on the radio and TV tonight thinks this is a good deal for the Mets.
