Hey does anyone know when the A's expect to have Lilly back? Will he be able to pitch against his old team next week in NY? How cool would it be to see him go up against Weaver and just stomp him!! Even though it looks like Weaver is headed for the bullpen when Clemens comes back.

What else do you know about Lilly...he always seems so mysterious, hopefully we will see and hear more from him while he is with the A's. I always thought the Yankees treated him like crap....

how did the Yanks treat him like crap?

anyways, Lilly was always a real quiet one. very soft spoken and very kind :). i wish we could have given him more run support...he's a real good kid and i wish him the best in Oakland :pout: (just not against the Yanks ;))

and Weaver is going to the bullpen, so i doubt there will be a Weaver/Lilly matchup any time soon.

Ok maybe treating him like crap was a bit harsh. I used to be a huge Yankee fan but started to drift away once Tino left and O'Neil and Brosious retired...I feel that this season the chemistry of seasons past wasn't there. But this trade really locked it for me.

I just feel that he went out and filled in for this one and that one, got no run support, and it was often blamed on what they called lack of confidence. I wouldn't be to confident either if I was getting moved around all the time. Out of the eight fill in pitchers of last year Lilly was the best. Joe Torre kept commenting on "we don't want to ruin his confidence" ...then you go and trade him....I'd be crushed if I were him too. Nothing would make me happier than to see Lilly finally get the no-hitter that he has been so close too against the Yanks.

i never heard his loses being blamed on lack of confidence...at least not this year. i always blamed them on lack of offense, except for the few times when he got lit up (like in his last start against the Mets).

:uhoh: really??? that would drive me insane. i hated when the trade took place because Lilly was always one of my favorites, and if he pitched a no-no against the Yanks it would just rub in the fact that he's not a Yankee anymore :ohno:. i'd like him to get his no-no...just not against the Yanks :nope:

It would make them realize what they gave up. I think the trade is going to come back and bite them in the.....

I am sorry but I really do not like Jeff Weaver and I do not see him fitting in with the Yankees.

that seems to be the common thought around here :ohno:. i hope he ends up fitting in and being everything he was in Detroit :). he may not, but i hope he will. i don't want to end up regretting giving up Teddy :pout:

I come from a family of Yankee fans and we discussed this trade...everyone was disgusted by it...

They are putting Weaver in the bullpen where Lilly was anyway and increased their payroll by a couple of million dollars. I am happy for Ted though, I think as a regular starter he is really going to have a chance to shine and that Oakland's big 3 will be the big 4 next year. His pitching style is different and even with all the lefties in that rotation you never get the same thing.

I was watching some show the other night and they showed a clip of Jeff Weaver on the Jerry Springer show as a "guest bouncer"...doesn't seem like Yankee material to me....

I do agree that the Yanks should re-sign Ventura since what's his name won't be ready next year. Unless Chavez gets moved to the outfield and Ventura signs with the A's....WOO HOO!!

yeah, Jeff seems kind of wild :nut:. but Giambi was wild before he came to New York so i guess i shouldn't worry.

i hope we re-sign Robin (see: my sig)! Henson would sooo not be ready (IMO).

so you're and A's fan now? or are you still a Yankees fan?

I used to be a die hard Yankees fan but I am over it now. I have realized how un-level the game is with their huge payroll and hording of players. I would really love to see the A's take it this year. They have a good team, and I have never been a Giambi fan so it makes me like them more and the Yankees less. As long as the Red Sox don't make it (which I doubt they will).

I think the Yankees are gonna have a very hard time making it through the playoffs. They have a lot of competition out there from Anaheim, Oakland and Boston, plus if Seattle picks up another pitcher at some point it could get ugly.

I cheer for certain Yankee players, but as a team...I think I'm done!

Lilly started his shoulder-strengthening program last week and could resume throwing next week.

-Actually I just heard that he will not be returning until September...according to GM Billy Beane and reported by Peter Gammons on August 3. They said he will not start throwing again until the A's return from their road trip. Guess he will not be facing the Yankees...hopefully in the playoffs!
