The Mets and Phillies have a history of making deals with each other. Here's a look at four blockbusters between the two teams including Friday night's Turk Wendell and Dennis Cook for Bruce Chen and Adam Walker swap.

December 3, 1974
To the Phillies:Tug McGraw, Don Hahn, and Dave Schneck
To the Mets:Del Uncer, John Stearns, and Mac Scarce
How it turned out:McGraw had two saves and struck out Willie Wilson for the last out of Game 6 to win the 1980 World Series. Stearns was an All-Star on some putrid Mets teams; Uncer was gone by 1976; and Scarce gave up a hit tothe only batter he faced with the Mets

Edge: Phillies

June 18, 1989
To the Phillies:Lenny Dykstra, Roger McDowell, and Tom Edens
To the Mets:Juan Samuel
How it turned out:Dykstra blossomed into an All-Star and hit .348 with 4 home runs and 8 RBI's in the 1993 World Series loss to the Blue Jays. Samuel hit .228 in 86 games

Edge: Phillies

November 27, 1996
To the phillies:Rico Brogna
To the Mets:Toby Borland, and Ricardo Jordan
How it turned out:Brogna hit 20 or more home runs three of four years the Phillies, while driving in 100 or more runs twice. Jordan was 1 & 2 with a 5.33 ERA and Borland was 0 & 1 with a 6.08 ERA

Edge: Phillies

July 27, 2001
To the Phillies:Turk Wendell, and Dennis Cook
To the Mets:Bruce Chen, and Adam Walker
How it turned out:Despite Turk's ominous debut yesterday, he and Cook were middle-relief workhorses for NL Champs. Chen has been given up on by the Braves and noe the Phillies, while Walker is unproven minor-league commodity

Edge: Phillies

In light of how those other trades turned out, it would be comforting if we could just go ahead and award the Phils the edge in this latest one. However, if Chen ever wakes up to his potential and stops being a nice guy who would NEVER throw inside on ANYONE, this trade would easily reverse the trend you noted. He has talent and he is a lefty, so it is very hard to cut him loose for 2 senior citizens who will be long out of baseball when Chen [and there is always the possibility of Walker too] is still going strong; this is the conflict you get when you trade for right now at the expense of the future. We will see how this turns out, but let's not be so quick to award the Phils a slam yet!
