I just can't give up on this team, I still believe (hopelessly). My mind isn't rational either, I'm with Mariela and James. Hell, they might give us one mighty exciting ride during the second half (and then again they might not, but I still have faith) With this team, who knows?

I know im stupid for thinking this but with Payton, Alfonzo and Shinjo comming back im willing to say these are the miracle mets part 2, we have enough quality starting pitching to win it all this year , plus no one has played up their level this year except Reed and i sense a second half surge powered by Alfonzo and Piazza who will both finish the season batting close to .330 I also see Rick Reed winning 20 games this year

The overnight guy on the radio last night made some interesting points about the Mets. The best one being that this is a bad year in a good stretch, and that getting rid of the core would be a mistake.

I've said it a zillion times, but it bears repeating once more: you cannot get rid of everyone except Mike, build a whole new team around a 33-year-old catcher and expect to win. Not gonna happen. I won't say that no one is expendable, but the core must be kept: Mike, Fonzie, Robin, Al, Reeder, Rusch, Payton, Turk, Franco. These are the guys who got us so close to the Promised Land last year and the year before. Some of the bench guys need to be kept too. Our biggest problem, IMHO, is that our bench guys have been playing too often because of the injuries to the core players.

We are not putting our A team on the field every day because we can't, and the bench is no longer as strong as it had been because they're on the field replacing the A team.

Vicious circle.
