TORONTO (AP) -- Chris Woodward couldn't fully enjoy hitting three home runs.

Woodward had the first multihomer game of his career, but Dan Wilson homered in the 10th inning to lift the Seattle Mariners over the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 Wednesday night.

``It's really bittersweet,'' Woodward said. ``I'm still trying to figure out how we could have won that game.''

In a game featuring seven homers, Woodward had the biggest night of all.

The Toronto shortstop homered in three straight at-bats, including a tying shot off Seattle closer Kazuhiro Sasaki with one out in the ninth.

After tying it at 1 off Joel Pineiro in the fifth inning, he gave Toronto a 3-2 lead with a solo shot off Pineiro in the seventh. He later tied it at 4 with his 11th home run.

``That was probably the best one,'' Woodward said. ``To tie the game was a thrill.''

Woodward became the first Toronto player to hit three home runs since Carlos Delgado did it April 20, 2001 at Kansas City.

He said an error he committed in the third inning carried over into his at-bats.

``Mentally it just kind of got me locked in,'' he said. ``I wanted to do something to reverse making an error because I hate making errors.''

Wilson homered off Luke Prokopec (2-9). Sasaki (3-5) pitched two innings for the win.

``We were lucky to come away with a 'W' after he hit three home runs,'' Wilson said.

Woodward is hitting .329 with seven home runs and 16 RBIs since becoming the starting shortstop after Toronto optioned Felipe Lopez to the minors on July 18.

``He's playing outstanding for us,'' Toronto manager Carlos Tosca said.

The Mariners took a 4-3 lead in the ninth. Reliever Scott Cassidy hit Jeff Cirillo with a pitch, Ichiro Suzuki singled and Mark McLemore put down a sacrifice bunt.

Toronto closer Kelvim Escobar then hit John Olerud with a pitch before Edgar Martinez hit an RBI single. Bret Boone followed with a fly out to right fielder Jose Cruz Jr., who threw out a sliding Suzuki at home.

``He's got a great arm,'' Wilson said. ``That was a big play for them.''

Martinez homered off Esteban Loaiza in the sixth to make it 2-1, but the Blue Jays hit consecutive home runs in the seventh.

Dewayne Wise tied it with his third home run and Woodward hit the first pitch he saw from Pineiro.

Boone hit his 19th homer off Cassidy in the eighth, tying it at 3.

``It was a back and forth game,'' Wilson said.

Wilson's two-out RBI double in the fourth gave Seattle a 1-0 lead.

I like Woodward, his offense has really started only this season, but its his defense that worry's me. He sometimes tries to make big plays on D, and they end up mistakes. He's a good player though.
