MILWAUKEE (TICKER) -- The Milwaukee Brewers surprisingly demoted starting pitcher Ruben Quevedo on Friday, sending the righthander to Class AAA Indianapolis of the International League.
Quevedo had made 25 starts - tied for the most on the team - and was third in innings pitched with 139. But the 23-year-old had been struggling with his consistency and was just 6-11 with a 5.76 ERA.
The Brewers activated lefthander Jimmy Osting from the 15-day disabled list to take Quevedo's spot on the team. Osting, 25, lefthander, will make his first appearance with the Brewers on Saturday against Pittsburgh after being sidelined with a strained left shoulder.
Osting made three relief appearances with San Diego last season.
