San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals have traded disgruntled outfielder Ray Lankford to the San Diego Padres in exchange for pitcher Woody Williams on Thursday. The Padres will also receive $2.8 million from the Cardinals to offset the difference in Lankford's and Williams' salaries this season and next.

I bet somebody will claim Williams. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Steinbrenner claim him.

You mean like they did with Canseco last season? That would have been funny! I guess both guys have cleared - haven't heard anything. Lankford is supposed to be in the line-up tonight against the Reds, according to MLB.com.

Yeah, to keep Boston or some other team from getting him, and also because I don't think Steinbrenner likes having a rookie in the rotation.
