The Rockies have lost 13 of the 15 games started by their No. 1 (Hampton) and 2 (Neagle) starters since June 21. In that stretch the two have a combined 8.54 earned-run average and the Rockies have gone 9-30 and have fallen into last place in the NL West.

Hampton has gone 1-6 in his past eight starts -- the Rockies have gone 1-7 -- with a 9.14 ERA. The win was an 8-2 decision at Coors Field on July 23, when he pitched a five-hitter for his second complete game of the season, ending a personal five-decision losing streak that was two losses longer than any other in his career.

At the time those acquistions looked to be really good. Especially when Hampton was 9-1. What happened?

While injuries is such an easy excuse, they definitely played a part. Hollandsworth's injury was a disaster, with the Rockies going through 10 players in left field since. Cirillo and Neagle both have been on the DL, along with just about everyone in the bullpen. Larry Walker started out hot, only to fizzle lately.

Hampton I'm not able to figure out. He pitched so well earlier in the season. He was at 9-2 when Brent Mayne was traded. He's gone 1-6 since then. The rookie catcher, Petrick, would seem to be a problem based on that alone. Now that Petrick's on the DL, we'll see what happens.
