Orioles shortstop Mike Bordick launched his rehabilitation from a separation of his right shoulder by going 1-for-4 as the Bowie designated hitter in the Baysox's 10-4 Eastern League defeat to the Harrisburg Senators last night at Prince George's Stadium.
His hit was a sixth-inning single against left-hander Brent Billingsley. In his other plate appearances, Bordick twice flied out to left field and once struck out on a sinker.
"It felt good swinging the bat," said Bordick. "I haven't seen live pitching in almost two months. Throwing is the main concern, but in a couple of days I'll probably be able to take the field. Making those long throws [from shortstop] for nine innings is the issue. I only started throwing eight days ago and there was some inflammation in there."
He has been on the Orioles' disabled list since June 14 after being upended by the New York Mets' Lenny Harris while attempting to turn a double play.
At the time, he was leading the Orioles with seven home runs and 13 doubles and had knocked in 30 runs, second on the club.
Bordick will continue his rehabilitation with the Delmarva Shorebirds in Salisbury through Monday, then report to Frederick the next night. He is scheduled to complete the assignment with the Keys until he is ready for major-league re-activation.
