Mets Activate Wall, Option Roberts

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Mets activated reliever Donne Wall from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and optioned right-hander Grant Roberts to Triple-A Norfolk.

Wall had been out since May 27 with a strained right shoulder. Wall pitched five scoreless innings in a rehab assignment for Double-A Binghamton.

''Donne pitched very well in his rehab,'' manager Bobby Valentine said before the Mets' game against the Chicago Cubs. ''I know he was chomping at the bit to come back.''

Wall was 0-3 with a 5.73 ERA in 18 games for the Mets before being placed on the disabled list.

Roberts made one appearance for the Mets, pitching 3 1-3 scoreless innings of relief on June 27 against the Cubs.

''Grant pitched extremely well,'' Valentine said. ''I was very impressed.''

Roberts will pitch out of the bullpen and as a starter for Norfolk.

I'd rather keep Roberts. Wall couldn't get into a game without giving up a homerun. I'd rather get Dicky back too. I was so impressed with both of them this season. I can really see them doing big things when the come the big leagues for good.
