CINCINNATI (Ticker) - One day after lasting just 2 1/3 innings in the first game of a doubleheader, righthander Brian Moehler has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a weak pitching shoulder.

Moehler has been a disappointment since being acquired from the Detroit Tigers on July 23, compiling a 2-3 record with a 6.62 ERA in seven starts. He has allowed 52 hits in just 34 innings.

On Tuesday, Moehler surrendered three runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings in the first game of a doubleheader against St. Louis.

Cincinnati recalled righthander Chris Reitsma from Class AA Chattanooga of the Southern League to replace Moehler in the rotation.

The Reds obtained Moehler, 30, after lefthander Kenny Rogers refused to accept a trade to Cincinnati. Moehler began the year on the disabled list while recovering from surgery on his rotator cuff and was 1-1 with a 2.29 ERA in three starts with Detroit.

Moehler's best season was 1998, when he established career highs in wins (14), ERA (3.90), innings (221 1/3) and strikeouts (123).

Reitsma was 5-9 with a 3.61 ERA in 23 games, including 20 starts for the Reds, before being sent to the minors.

Cincinnati (65-65) is 6 1/2 games behind first-place St. Louis in the National League Central.
