TORONTO (AP) -- Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Felix Heredia was charged with assaulting a woman with a weapon.

Toronto Detective Peter Harmsen said Heredia assaulted the mother of one of his children at about 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Harmsen said alcohol was involved.

``It was a dispute. They had been socializing and it turned sour,'' said Harmsen, who wouldn't say what the weapon was.

The 22-year-old woman was treated at the hospital and released. Harmsen said the injuries were minor.

Heredia, who turned himself in, was in custody and awaiting a bail hearing Thursday afternoon.

``We are still in the process of obtaining all of the information regarding the allegation,'' Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. ``However, this is a personal matter for Mr. Heredia and his representatives to resolve. We will be carefully monitoring this situation and will only be making comments once all the information is obtained.''

Harmsen said Heredia, 27, and two friends of the woman were eating chinese food before the assault took place. A neighbor called police.

This sucks, we traded a great defensive shortsop for him :angry:
This just makes me in more of a bad mood today.

Hopefully he gets over his problems and Felipe Lopez develops into a gold glover :)

It'll get better in time. Just like Hinske, whose gonna be a gold glover soon. And I mean that. His defence has improved by a lot since the start of the year.

His defence was horrible, I think he led the team in errors at the start of the year, but he's only had like 5 since.

well he is a rookie right? Can only get better :thumbsup: and he has been pretty good at the plate can't be perfect at everything

I'm happy with the amount of walks he's taken, which shows he is imnproving on strikeout amount.

yeah 109k to 66 walks isnt too bad.
