Indianapolis, Sept. 5 - Impressed by his performances against them, the Pacers have reached come to terms with free agent point guard Erick Strickland.

"We have an agreement," said team president Donnie Walsh on Thursday.

Strickland, 28, averaged 7.7 points and 2.3 assists last season with the Boston Celtics but was a particular thorn in the Pacers' side. Two of his three highest-scoring games of the season game against them - 22 points each in Boston victories on Jan. 23 and April 2. Overall, Strickland averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting .538 overall and from the 3-point line against the Pacers last season.

"I like his defense, I like his shooting, I like his competitiveness and I like his toughness," said Walsh. "And I think he can play both guard positions."

Strickland, who has averaged 8.6 points and 2.4 assists in seven NBA seasons with Dallas, Vancouver, New York and Boston, is expected to back up second-year starter Jamaal Tinsley.

"But you never know," Walsh said. "When you get to training camp, anything can happen."

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

aw damn, it's Erick Strickland :eek: :angry:. i thought it was Rod Strickland :angry:. take away that little smiley i had on the subject now :(

i remember this guy killing Indy in the regular season, but he's a guard and we kinda have a lot of guards already :freak:...i guess we do need a backup for Tinsley though. does anyone know if this guy is consistent?
