De La Hoya Silences Vargas

Sworn enemies Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas worked together to put on quite a show Saturday, with De La Hoya scoring a technical knockout in the 11th round to retain the 154-pound WBC title and claim Vargas' WBA version. De La Hoya proved to his critics -- Vargas among the most vocal -- that he's more warrior than pampered Golden Boy.

I was staying at Mandalay Bay the weekend of that fight. Couldn't get ducats to save my life. That place was crazy. Tons of people crowding the elevators and gawking in front of the VIP check-in area. It was insane.
