What gets me is that the press thinks that, just because the team sucks, they are fair game for crap like this. Sure. Kick someone when they're down. It's easy and fun. woohoo!

Apparently, Grant Roberts had told the team ages ago that he was being blackmailed by a woman from Binghampton (where the Mets AA team is). The Mets told MLB. But no one told Newsday because they acted as if the picture was taken last week. It wasn't. It was taken several years ago. In addition, they don't name the other 4 Mets who are supposedly smoking dope. They leave it up to innuendo and speculation. One of the article's authors said that he hadn't had any backlash from the players, but someone who works for the radio station that broadcasts games was told by players that they are furious that now everyone is guilty by association. A man who sits near me on Saturdays told me that he has friends at Newsday and he told them that they'd be lucky if Mets players ever confided in them ever again.

Jeff Weaver was traded from Detroit because he smoked dope in airplane bathrooms and groped flight attendants. David Wells gets his teeth knocked out at 6am. Ruben Rivera steals Alien Baby's glove and is only dumped because the players took a vote. But no one gives a damn because they are Yankees.
