The Mets are my favorite team, having followed them since 1962, but I have family living down in the suburbs of Philadelphia since about 1968 and I have adopted the Phillies as my second favorite team.

Howdy-how there friends, neighbors and fellow baseball freaks ... Just wanted to announce a little offseason "road show" that my Astros brother Barzilla and I are going to take here at Addicts this offseason ... And this seemed like the perfect thread here in the Phils Phorum to reviev and get this this all started.
The Barzilla & PopTop Road Show is officially loaded up and on the move, and Philadelphia just so happens to be our phirst stop ... Ok, anyone else but me already sick of the "ph" funny spelling?:hmm:
It's really nothing special, something I'm sure all of you will agree with once you read what we're posting ;) Just simple stuff about team history, funny moments, great players, stuff like that ... Barzilla is also going to crunch some numbers for each team and try to get some past, present and future team analysis posted for discussion, debate and general all-around hot stove conversation ... All we're trying to do is generate some extra traffic and interests in a few Addicts Forums that are usually quiet ... Who knows? Maybe some newbie Phillies fan will register today and chime in with their own ideas and stories.
Ironic that this was the first team we chose just before the Phils and Astros completed a major trade last week that sent closer Billy Wagner to the City of Brotherly Love ... Anyway, enjoy and pheel phree to offer up your phavorite Phillies phacts --- Ooops! There I go again with the "ph" thingy! --- to the site.
Look for us next week (17 Nov) in Kansas City.

History & History Related Items
Philadelphia history:
Philadelphia is the site of the first capital of the United States. The Quakers came here in 1681 to settle. In the beginning they lived in caves carved out along the Delaware River. Over 80 homes were quickly built. William Penn called it his "greene countrie towne". The Quakers were hard-working and industrious and this paid off as the town prospered. Many important "firsts" happened in Philadelphia: first American hospital, first medical college, first bank, first paper mill, zoo, sugar refinery, US Mint and more. One of the prominant first citizens was Benjamin Franklin.
The first and second continental congress convened here in Philadelphia. The citizens were loyal to their new country and made Philadelphia the headquarters of the American Revolution. Philadelphia was the national capital until 1800 except for a brief time when New York City was the capital. Philadelphia is rich in historical sites.
In 1800, the largest USA city was Philadelphia. The top five were Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, Boston and Charleston, South Carolina. Philadelphia continued that distinction until 1830.
The motto, The City of Brotherly Love, came from William Penn, the English Quaker, who envisioned the area as a place where anyone of any color or background could live together in peace and harmony, thus, the motto about brotherly love.
