I was watching the Simpsons the other day, the one where they go to a ghostown and Homer winds up giving a kidney to his dad. The stark contrast in plots really dumbfounded my roommate and I, and we realized that most episodes followed this style of combining two unrelated plots into one show. My roommate then came up with a great theory: They tell one writer to come up with a plot, then they tell a different writer to come up with another plot, then the rest of the writers have to find a way to mesh the two plots together. However they do it, they shouldn't stop, I love the show.
