Will Drayton McLane never learn?

Link above to story about the Astros constructing an area outside the stadium to be called Halliburton Plaza and "feature the history of the franchise, spanning from the Colt .45s in 1962 to the modern-day Astros era which has produced four division titles in the last six years," writes Alyson Footer of MLB.com.

The artist's rendition of the area is actually pretty nice ... The irony is the proposed area for this outdoor museum is exactly where they have been trying to grow grass the last couple of years and, at one time, had little signs reading "Please Keep Off The Grass." ... It was also kind of strange how the area was raised, something I still don't understand unless it was the stadium's intent for runoff from the deluges we get here in Houston to flood the walkways where fans were supposed to walk into the park at the two entrances.

But Halliburton Plaza? ... Oh well, with the asbestos suits Halliburton is facing, the name should get a lot of publicity ... Not to mention all of the tidbits of info the Democrats are bound to bring out in 2004 when President Bush and VP Cheney run for re-election (Cheney was CEO of Halliburton in the 90s for those who don't know.)

Three of the articles more entertaining quotes, all from Senior VP of Operations and Communications Rob Matwick:

"The basepaths will be brick so kids can run the bases." --- Yeah, nothing like running basepaths made of brick to really bring out the Astros' red color in youngsters' knees.

"It will reflect the Astros team history, and it has a baseball theme." --- Golly, I was sort of thinking a reflection of Astros team history might have a football theme.

"Even when the ballpark is closed, fans can still come to Minute Maid Park and walk through the Halliburton Plaza and get a feel for the history of the franchise." --- Surprised he didn't fit a plug in there somewhere for McLane's grocery supply business.
