Phillies Rookie Sets Steals Mark
ATLANTA (AP) -- Philadelphia Phillies rookie Jimmy Rollins set a team record with his 21st consecutive stolen base in the first inning of Thursday night's game against the Atlanta Braves.
The 22-year-old shortstop, the only Philadelphia player selected to the NL All-Star team, stole second after singling off Greg Maddux. Rollins advanced to third on Bobby Abreu's single and scored on Scott Rolen's sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
Rollins, who leads the NL with 26 steals, broke the mark formerly held by current manager Larry Bowa, who stole 20 straight from April 17-July 2, 1974.
The Phillies entered the game with an NL-best 85 stolen bases. Rollins has not been caught stealing since May 8 at Houston.
