LATEST UPDATE (11/22/2002)

Greetings --

You may be wondering what the 2003 PGA Tour schedule looks like. Well, the official schedule has yet to be released, as the Tour is still finalizing 2003 sponsorship deals.

I have elected to construct a likely 2003 schedule based on all the available info I could gather. It is available at this link--
Projected 2003 PGA Tour Schedule (http://fgf2001.100megsfree3.com/golf/pga2003.htm) «« just click-on here.

If anyone has updated info on any part of the schedule, please post it here.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank2001 (http://fgf2001.100megsfree3.com/golf/)

Greetings --

With Tour Commish Tim Finchem's announcement that the 2003 American Express Championship would have a week to itself, it is now virtually certain that the Valero Texas Open will have its own week to shine.

This initially put something of a bind on the Southern Farm Bureau (SFB) Classic, which was thru 2002 the last official full-field event on the schedule, and which had to play 2nd fiddle to the Tour Championship.

On the Golf Channel Viewers Forum aired Weds Oct 30 2002, it was brought out that the SFB Classic field was only 120 players, instead of 132 or 144. This means that 12 to 24 players seeking Top 125 or 126-150 exempt status would not have the opportunity to play.

My personal opinion at that point was --

If the Tour was not going to expand the SFB classic's field or move it to another date, or give the Tour Championship its own week, then perhaps serious thought should be given to expanding the Tour Championship's field from 30 to 50, thus freeing up some spots at the SFB Classic.

On Weds Nov 20 2002, the PGA Tour announced that the Southern Farm Bureau Classic would be moved from its previous spot opposite the Tour Championship to the same week as the American Express Championship.

With this move, the Chrysler Tampa Bay Classic becomes the last full-field event of the season, while the Tour Championship gets a week all to itself for the 1st time since 1998.

The Projected 2003 PGA Tour Schedule Page (http://fgf2001.100megsfree3.com/golf/pga2003.htm) has been updated. You can now click on the Total Purse/1st prize of each event (with some exceptions) and view the prize money distribution chart for that event.

The prize money distributions shown for the Mercedes Championships, NEC Invitational and American Express Championship are unofficial approximations.

On Weds Oct 30 2002, Tour Commish Tim Finchem hinted that the total official prize money for 2003 would be $220 million or thereabouts. This appears to be true, as many events are worth at least $500,000 more than they were in 2002.

The only thing that I see wrong is that George Bush's tax cuts won't be fully phased in for another five years! Oh, well - I think these guys can handle it!

Thanks for the updates, Frank. I was surprised to see the old GGO change dates so dramatically. Is it because of a WGC event conflict?

I haven't heard much about the President's Cup next year. I know there was some controversy about some of the top US players looking to skip it, as it's in South Africa. Has everyone kissed and made up?

If I'm not shoveling snow out of my drive, I'll be watching some of the Mercedes Championships.

Greetings Trots --

Thanks for stopping by.

Why the Greensboro date switch? - no reason I'm aware of. Guess we'll all have to write the Greensboro Jaycees and/or Chrysler and ask them why.

Of course, you'll notice that the Wachovia Championship came up and took the open spring date. No conflict there that I can see.

I'm still waiting on news of the event replacing the Air Canada-Vancouver. Tiger Woods is currently negoiating to have a Labor day weekend event, possibly to be held at the TPC of Boston.

Greetings --

Well, Tiger got his Labor Day event, the Greater Hartford Open was saved from oblivion and the former Air Canada Vancouver event is officially dead.

And, as of 11-21-2002, still no official announcement of the 2003 PGA Tour Schedule.

Oh, Well!
