Brian Bohanon's next assignment is elbow surgery. And there's speculation the bottom line could mean an end to the pitcher's career with the Colorado Rockies.

General manager Dan O'Dowd said Sunday it's too early to tell.

"We'll see how the surgery goes and how long it takes to get him back," O'Dowd said. "We'll make a decision once we get a better evaluation of his health. I can't say the door is shut. He has had a long career here, but I'll have to wait and see what the doctors tell me after the surgery is done."

Trainer Tom Probst said the left-hander's surgery is planned for Wednesday.

With Bohanon sidelined, the Rockies will get a longer look at right-hander Jason Jennings, a former Baylor star who will take Bohanon's spot in the rotation and make his first big-league start Thursday in New York against the Mets.
