Jason Jennings, the first-round pick from Baylor in 1999, is expected to join the Rockies' rotation and make his major-league debut Thursday in New York against the Mets. He's the candidate to replace struggling left-hander Brian Bohanon, who went on the disabled list Saturday with elbow inflammation. The Rockies called up left-hander Todd Belitz to help the bullpen until Thursday.
Jennings, 23, was 7-7 with a 4.83 ERA with Triple-A Colorado Springs entering Saturday night's game against Salt Lake. He started the year at Double-A Carolina, where he went 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA in four games. He'll be the first first-rounder to pitch for the Rockies since Jamey Wright, the 1993 first-round pick, debuted in '96. Since then, Doug Million (1994) died from an asthma attack in '97, Jake Westbrook ('96) went to Montreal in '97 in the Mike Lansing trade, Mark Mangum ('97) went to Montreal in '98 in the Dave Veres trade and Matt Roney ('98) is in Single-A Asheville with a 6-10 record.
