The Philadelphia Phillies optioned struggling starter Bruce Chen to Class AA Reading and activated right-hander Cliff Politte from the 60-day disabled list. Chen, 4-5 with a 5.00 earned-run average in 16 starts this season, gave up seven earned runs on seven hits in a 9-5 loss at Atlanta on Thursday. Politte, on the disabled list since March 31 because of a right arm injury, will work out of the bullpen.
