The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the White Sox are interested in trading for Bartolo Colon. It was one of their main topics at the organizational meetings. They could be willing to deal a package of Carlos Lee plus a young pitcher such as Jon Rauch, Rocky Biddle, or Corwine Malone.

I think they would need to offer more than that to get Bartolo.

i dont kow about that. The article said the Expos are probably going to be citting salries. When you are trading players to cut your payroll, you usually dont ask for as much in return. And its not like they would b getting crap in return. Carlos Lee, a 26-year-old who hit 26 homers last year and improved defensively and offensively(except for average) in 2002. Plus one of our top prospect pitchers. If Montral doesnt want any of those 3, the article said that the only 3 untouchable pitchers in the whole organization are Buehrle, Marte, and Kris Honel.

And if thats not enough, we'll throw in Josh Paul or Mark Johnson:)

Bartolo's contract is only for 6 million, which is a huge bargain for a staff ace. They gave up a lot to get him, namely their top prospect, as well as three other top prospects. Chicago, at the very least, would net to give up Lee, a top pitching prospect, (which is what they are alledgly offering) and either another top prospect or a couple of mid level players who have boat loads of potential.

the Expos also werent sure of the future of their franchise, so they were in a win-now mode. They were willing to give up their future to make the value of their team higher.

And also, Colon has just one more year on his contract, which would make his trade value lower than it would be if he was not going to be a free agent at season's end.

I mean the Sox arent very deep in their farm system, but if it took just one more decent prospect to finish the deal, id be all for it.
