What do you think? Discuss.

I think that McDonald's is innocent in this case. No one says that you have to eat their food. You choose what you want to eat.

McDonald's Disputes Obesity Suit

By Devlin Barrett, c The Associated Press

NEW YORK (Nov. 21) - Are Big Macs hazardous to children's health?

Lawyers have filed a class-action lawsuit against McDonald's on behalf of New York children who have suffered health problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

In federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday, a lawyer alleged that the fast-food chain has created a national epidemic of obese children. Samuel Hirsch argued that the high fat, sugar and cholesterol content of McDonald's food is ''a very insipid, toxic kind of thing'' when ingested regularly by young kids.

The plaintiffs include a Bronx teen who ate every meal at McDonald's for three years while living in a homeless shelter. Another is a 13-year-old boy from Staten Island who says he ate at McDonald's food three to four times a week and is now 5-foot-4 and 278 pounds.

McDonald's lawyer Brad Lerman insisted the lawsuit was a frivolous attempt to cash in on the Golden Arches, ''the kind of lawsuit that shouldn't be in court.''

''People don't go to sleep thin and wake up obese,'' Lerman said. ''The understanding and comprehension of what hamburgers and french fries do has been with us for a long, long time.''

McDonald's has asked Judge Robert Sweet to dismiss the case, arguing those who filed the claims cannot show their health woes were caused by Big Macs and insisting the company has never misled customers about its food. The judge did not immediately rule on the request.

I for one deplore McDonald's, mostly because I don't like their food ... Houston didn't have a McDonald's until the 70s, and the first time I went to a McDonald's was on a vacation up in New England back in the late 60s ... I remember being sort of excited about finally tasting their product after seeing their ads so much, but what did I know being a goofy teen?

I bit into one of their burgers and spit it out almost immediately ... Having grown up on DQ, Whataburger and regular diner burgers, I couldn't handle the cardboard I was eating.

Why I wanted to relate that story, I don't know ... Back to the subject at hand ... This is even more ridiculous than the hot coffee in the lap lawsuit ... This is like suing GM for causing a wreck in which I was going 90 MPH in a 70 MPH zone, the contention being if the auto maker didn't build a car that exceeded the speed limit, the wreck wouldn't have occurred ... Oh heck! I just gave the slimy lawyers and lazy, gimme-something-for-nothing-jerks something else to file a class action suit on behalf.

I really didn't mean to imply that one fast food joint or another was okey dokey fine ... It's just I never had a hamburger with anything but mustard on it until I went to that McDonalds ... Couldn't believe they would put catsup on a burger ... Catsup was for french fries only, as far as I was concerned ... Mustard was for hamburgers and hotdogs, maybe ham sandwiches ... Mayo was for BLT's ... Salsa and pico was for everything else.

What about the time that Kramer burned his mouth because the coffee was too hot.....

I still say that Jackie (Kramer's infamous lawyer) had a great case until Kramer, without Jackie's permission, decided to settle for like a year or something like that of free coffee:lmao:

:hmm:

The plantiffs' lawyers should be executed. When the Christ are people going to start taking responsibility for their own actions?
