Life’s Hope
The old man stands alone over an empty grave,
wondering where it all went wrong.
Whispers on the breeze, wisp of smoke in the air.
He seems all alone now,
the last of all who care.
Staring into the pit, he wonders if its all gone.
Was it all in vain,
nature’s experiment fail so badly?
When it seems we’re wrapped in bitterness,
and everything wreathed in violence.
When madmen rule the east,
and peace shattered by our bloody civil wars.
When brother fights brother,
everything seems to ignite.
The old man standing vigil,
the grave as yet unfilled.
A faint flicker still beats in her heart.
With each new breath, each new birth,
there’s hope she may yet endure;
that we learn from our past.
Each act of love giving her strength,
good deeds breathing new life.
The old man stares into the grave,
he’s still holding out faint hope.
