Why do some of you not like nBA just wondering??

mostly because the NBA is a bunch of over-paid prima donnas who have no idea how to play the game anymore... It's like you can watch a game and before every hoop, there can be at least 2 or 3 violations which are not called. It gets sort of old watching it.

College ballplayers still have something to prove. They are playing because they love the game... not for a paycheck... Most of them will never play a single game in the NBA, yet that does not stop them from going out and busting their asses every night.

I agree with you both.

I don't mind going to a Nuggets game every once in awhile, but I don't go out of my way to watch an NBA or game or attend one...

'Cause the NBA has a bunch of egotistical idiots running up and down a court for 48 minutes.

College players, like Shawn said, play the game because they love it. Because of that, they're a lot more fun to watch.

And if you're getting the money they are ... you SHOULD try.

I agree with Shawn and Josh......I used to watch NBA back in '70's which were great. Now I tried to get back into NBA but I couldn't bear those overgrown boys with those gigantic egos. So I'm sticking with the college basketball from now on. :D

UCONN Women won last night even though at the beginning they sucked briefly. The score was 85-39. It was great seeing Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Tamika Williams there to unveil the championship banner.

Let me give another example:

Nuggets 72, Clippers 70...game last night...

These guys are making about 5 mil a piece per year and can score only a combined 140 points? Give me a break...

I'm not sure, lal4l. I have only started to watch games, both college and pro, again for the first time in years. Personally, I think I may still be having post-Bird/Magic/Jordan hangover. As good as some of today's players are, none of them are as good in my opinion as those three. Nothing Shaq, Kobe, Vince, Webber or anyone else can do, will be as impressive to me as what Bird/Magic/Jordan did night in and night out throughout their careers.

I also think the emphasis on individuals (both in marketing and style of play) has led to less team play which most diehard fans find annoying. It has created a game void of fundamentals, as well. As an example, can anyone in the league consistently hit a fifteen foot jumper? Does anyone take a fifteen foot jumper? (I'd love to see the three point line go bye-bye.) Passing is also a lost art. Defense? Not until the playoffs start. As BP stated earlier, let's see some 125-120 games (outside of Dallas).

Three other factors hurt the NBA. 1) The difference in officiating that Shawn pointed out. If you are going to allow walking on every play, at least score 100 points a night. 2) The lack of rivalries. Sorry, but the only true NBA rivalry is Celtics vs. Lakers. 3) The NBA is in a down talent cycle. I believe talent in sports runs in cycles and the NBA is in the midst of valley.

Let me add that I do not buy into any of the college myths, either. Like the kids are going to school to get an education, they aren't getting illegal perks, they are only playing for the love of the game or their school, etc... These are the same soon-to-be egomanical, fundamentally challenged, multi-millionaires everyone is complaining about. They learned their self-centered behavoir way before David Stern announced their name at the podium.

As I said at the beginning, I am now watching the Pistons and Celtics semi-regularly and I have already watched more college basketball this year than the last few. Basketball is probably my second favorite sport, especially when it's played well. Unfortunately, for the NBA, imo that hasn't been the case in quite a while. (Of course, the tv ratings say I'm very wrong.)

Geesh - I agree with everyone! How bad is that? Trots about covered it all, so I'll just add a couple of things -

The NBA's constant crotch-grabbing BS into the baseline camera after blocked shots and dunks - how much of that do you need to see?

Selection Sunday - The NBA has nothing that is as entertaining or speculated on in any shape, way or form.

Storming the court - try this in the NBA and go to jail.

College sports has it's problems, no doubt. Underclassmen and high school players going straight to the NBA is hurting the game...one of the best things about college ball is watching the players develop over the four or five seasons. Back to money, the root of all evil.

Brian, I agree with most of what you are saying.. but here is the deal about the college kids playing more for the love of the game. Using the University of Pittsburgh as a prime example. There is one... MAYBE two guys on that team who will play in the NBA (as of right now... no telling about the incoming freshman....) The one player who will play in the NBA is probably one of the most unselfish ballplayers I have ever met. The Panthers go out there night after night.... and play hard for 40 minutes.... KNOWING that they have no future in basketball after they graduate (Sort of like what players feel like when playing for the Pirates) yet they bust their butts all the time. THAT is what i am talking about playing for the love and enjoyment of the game.

Well, Dan, I couldn't even tell ya.. didn't even find out what the score was until 5 minutes ago. But, one thing to remember is the fact that Pitt playig Duquesne is a lot like the Steelers playing the Jags or something. It can be a pretty big rivalriy, even though i do not think duquesne has ever actually won.

I like college ball, but I like NBA better because I dont have a home team in the NCAA Like I do in the NBA. It's much easier for the follow the Raptors then I can with the Terps :D

Shawn, I'll give you the point about the kids at Pitt. I know many players are only interested in playing. However, scanning the transactions, you'll see even tiny Division I programs, in the smallest of Olympic sports, getting put on probation for one violation or another. Tennis, soccer, hockey, track and field, it makes no difference. I am left with the conclusion that nearly everyone is skirting the rules.

Who are we kidding? The Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello and the Three Stooges all made light of college athletics over fifty years ago. The only tradition older than college sports is cheating in college sports. I love the game, but realize the thing is a mess and a charade.

Btw, playing for the Tigers is worse than playing for the Bucs.

I hope you liked my site, Mike. We havent been very diligent in the updates lately, so it's uncertain whether we'll continue to update during basketball season or not... laziness
