Who's the best running back in the Big 10?

Johnson had the best numbers this year and was the best back this season. Clarett though has a bigger upside and will be the bigger star and better back. But for this year it is Johnson.

Johnson would be my pick.

How can a 2,000 yard rusher, a player leading the NCAA in rushing, a player who broke the record for the most yards per carry, and a player second in the nation in scoring not be the best player in the nation, let alone in his own conference?
There's not even a close second.

I'll play devils advocate and make a case for Clarett, but keep in mind the case I make is for Clarett is about who WILL BE the best back when all is said and done. Clarett has the best work ethic I have heard of in a long time.
He tried his darnedest and graduated high school in december so he could come down to Columbus and participate in spring drills for football.
As an 18 year old, when he was healthy, he could not be stopped by some good teams such as Texas Tech, Washington State, and Michigan. I don't have his exact stats though. A case could be made that he will be injury prone in his career based on this season, but I hope not.
As a freshman, he broke OSU's freshman rushing record set by Archie Griffen, a two time Heisman trophey winner. Watching him all season, it's very easy to say he is a blend of Barry Sanders and Jerome Bettis as he can bowl right over the defense, but also has some sweet moves to shed tacklers.
I still say Johnson is better this season, but Clarett will be a bona-fide superstar in a few years.

Yeah but you can't project things three or four years from now. You can only go on what each player has done this year. And LJ blows Clarett out of the water.
And who's to say LJ won't be a star? I think he'll be a very good pro.

I completly agree, I'm saying that with his work ethic and how good he is now at 18, everything is in place for Clarett to be one of the best runningbacks in a while.

There is no reason that Clarrett shouldn't become something special...

I could not agree more about Trev Alberts....
Is there a bigger hater of the Big Ten then him? I think not...he's finally given Ohio State a little bit of credit here recently, but how can you not?
I think he inhaled a little too much cow shit while he was out there in Nebraska....(no offense Aweful..:D )

I think that the Clarrett kid needs to stay in college first of all. I just don't like idea of seeing a 19 year old kid in the NFL. He might get killed by those guys. He has a chance to develop into a great back with some more time in college.
I voted for Johnson in the poll though. He has been so good this season, it's unreal. I've never seen anyone break off as many big runs as he has had. But at the same time, it's not like he is getting all his yards on a few runs, and getting stopped the rest of the time. He is destroying people on nearly every carry. And he can catch!
I have to be honest, I don't really know anyone on the offensive line for PSU but they must be damn good, because sometime, all he has to do it hit the whole, he doesn't even get touched until he is in the secondary.

Those comments of his were blown out of proportion. He's here until at least a junior, possibly until he graduates. He was asked, if given McNabb's new contract would you go pro, and he gave his honest answer. Who wouldn't turn pro with that kind of money? He's a smart kid and will do what's right.

See, I never heard the comments to begin with. I saw the ESPN the magazine cover, and heard everyone else arguing about it, and didn't know what he had actually said.
If someone offerend my McNabb's contract to go jump off a cliff, I think I would take my chances.
