I don't really know, they're are some great goalies in the past, but I'm thinking Patrick Roy is the best goalie of all time, I would like to know who you think is...

Tommy . . . is maybe the biggest jerk of all the goaltenders.

Actually, he was very good in his day, but not one of the best ever.

I have not been around very long to see too many goelies, but I would also have to go with Roy. I think he is a little better than Hasek. Hasek did some things that I had never seen before, but I think that night in and night out, I would rather have Roy.

Rick, Barrasso may have been a jerk, but I do believe that he also fails to get his due. He does have the #6 All-Time winning percentage. Considering how long the NHL has been around, I would say that is pretty good. He is also #11 All-Time in wins.

As for who is the best ever, I think I am going to go with Jacques Plante... followed closely by Patrick Roy.

I flip-flop on this one. I tend to lean towards Plante, however Roy, Dryden and Terry Sawchuck are also on my short list.

Roy may have the most wins, but he does not have the highest winning percentage. That would belong to Plantes.

I have always thought that many people get caught up in the number of wins, when winning percentage is probably a better barometer.

It's like Nolan Ryan in baseball . . . I think that Nolan is great, maybe in the top 20 or 25 pitchers of all time, but he was very close to being a career .500 guy even though he had 300 + wins. He also lost almost 300 games.

I think that another stat that someone should post is goals against average.

I didn't realize that Barasso was that high on the list of winning percentage. That speaks very favorably for him.

The problem with goaltenders is that there is so much that goes into being a good goaltender. GAA, Winning Percentage, and even Wins are so closely tied to how good your defense is. Fact is, the best barometer of a goalie is, in fact, SAVE percentage.

I like Plante too, he would definately be my number 2, but Patrick has 4 Stanley Cup Rings with more teams in the league, he is right now the best goalie in the league, since Hasek is gone and Theodore is having an off-season.
Tom Barrasso was excellant before. we can't forget his stellar rookie season, and several solid seasons after that. But to me, he doesen't rank in the top 5.
Ken Dryden was excellant too, but the fact that he is now the President of the Leafs--and not the Habs-- takes away a few votes from me :D
