Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Reds shortstop Barry Larkin has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a right groin injury.

Larkin aggravated the injury during Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Larkin, who has been bothered by the groin since spring training, was hurt after slipping on the wet outfield grass while trying to flag down an infield single by Sammy Sosa during the sixth inning.

The Cincinnati captain remained on the ground for a couple of minutes while surrounded by teammates and trainers, but got up and limped off the field.

Larkin will make his second trip to the DL because of the injury. He was on the disabled list May 18 to June 15 with a sore right groin.

The 37-year-old Larkin is hitting .256 with two homers and 17 RBI in 45 games this season.

The Reds replaced the roster spot by recalling infielder Bill Selby from Triple-A Louisville.
