Team Notes
Thursday, June 28
The Astros' four-game winning streak ended
Wednesday with a 7-5 loss at Arizona.
Houston clubbed four more home runs,
bringing its total for the three-game series to
11. CF Lance Berkman and RF Moises Alou
did much of the damage, going 13-for-26 with
seven homers and 13 RBI. They hit
back-to-back homers in the second inning off
RHP Curt Schilling, performing the feat for the
second time in the series. The Astros have hit
back-to-back homers six times this year, with
Alou involved five times and Berkman four.

During the game, Houston traded RHP Jay
Powell to the Colorado Rockies for LHP Ron
Villone and cash considerations. "Pretty
obvious looking at our pitching staff that we
need a lefty," manager Larry Dierker said. "We
don't have one other than our closer and we
can't use him in the middle of the game. Jay
was the odd man out. He's been throwing the
ball pretty good for us." Powell is not
intimidated by the notion of pitching in Denver.
"I pitched in Enron two years. Coors won't
matter," he said. "I've been traded three times
now. It's no big deal. You try to make it as
easy as you can. I don't think I've thrown the
ball terrible. It's not like I need a change of
scenery. It's definitely understandable. They
need a lefty." Upcoming Schedule: June 29 at
MIL -- Shane Reynolds (8-5) vs. Ben Sheets
(9-4) June 30 at MIL -- TBA vs. Allen Levrault
(3-2) July 1 at MIL -- TBA vs. Paul Rigdon (3-4)
July 2 at MIL -- TBA vs. Jimmy Haynes (5-8)

Meant to say something about this when I first saw it, but I believe Rockin' Ray's post above was officially the 5000th post in this Forum. Figures, some damn Cubs fan gets the honor! ;)

Took a while and several of us sort of flying solo at times, but it's great to see all of the activity in the past 12 months or so here ... Here's to 5000 more posts and beyond

This was a great trade for the Rox that year...

Ouch, Jay Powell now has vertigo or something like that. I think the Rangers would have just as soon put him on the DL with whiplash but I don't think that's a legtitimate diagnosis.

Adam Everett
Adam Everett was moved back into the No. 2 spot in the Astros batting order on Sunday and went 3-for-4 with two RBI. He had been hitting eighth recently. There's no indication that the move was permanent, but you can bet Everett will get a few more chances to hit second given his success in Sunday's contest.

Tell that to Nick Esasky.

Carlos Hernandez
Astros assistant GM Tim Purpura told the Houston Chronicle that Carlos Hernandez was throwing in the high 80s in his start for Triple-A New Orleans on Friday, when he threw seven scoreless innings. Purpura said that Hernandez's breaking ball was coming along but still "needs to get a bit sharper." It's not clear when Hernandez might get a shot in the majors.

Darren Oliver tested his sore shoulder by playing catch yesterday, according to the Houston Chronicle. However, he likely won't be ready to return within the next three weeks, which would keep him from making a rehab start.

The Astros have recalled Willie Taveras from AA Round Rock. With Taveras and Chris Burke now on the bench, Houston has some speed for late inning situations.

Got to like young Willie :D They should give him a wide receiver's number, something like 81 or 84. You just look faster with one of those numbers on your back!

This will be an interesting final four weeks, one way or another.
