Buddy Bell said he doesn't expect a major roster expansion Saturday when major league rosters can be expanded from 25 to as many as 40 players. He said the only sure things are that catcher Ben Petrick will be activated from the disabled list and left-handed reliever Todd Belitz will be called up. Right-handed pitcher Scott Elarton also will be activated from the disabled list, although he could make a second start for AAA Colorado Springs on Monday before joining the Rockies.

There also have been discussions about outfielders Jacob Cruz and Kimera Bartee, but neither is on the 40-player major league roster, so adding either or both would force the Rockies to make a move with another player.

Bell said one area where the Rockies might need help is in the bullpen, depending on how Dan Miceli responds to treatment for soreness in his right shoulder. If Miceli is going to be sidelined, Bell said the team might add two right-handed relievers, possibly Craig Dingman and Craig House.

With the activation of Elarton, acquired July 31 from Houston for Pedro Astacio, there is a possibility the Rockies will go with a six-man starting rotation in the final four weeks of the season.
