Great article Josh..
"Kingman's research has uncovered some unusual artifacts. One is that he was the first person to lose 20 games for a winning team since someone named Dolph Luque for the 1992 Cincinnati Reds. Another is that Walter Johnson, Cy Young, Steve Carlton and about 15 other Hall of Fame pitchers had at least one 20-loss season on their baseball cards.
"Obviously, I'm not a pitcher in the same league as those guys," said Kingman, who was 23-45 in a five-year career that was cut short by injuries in 1983. "But if they can lose 20, what's so bad about it? "
Kingman doesn't mention though that when Young lost 21 games he won 26 and that Walter Johnson who one year went 13-25 had an ERA of 2.22 and the other year he lost 20 he won 25 and had an ERA of 1.90....Geez, talk about NO run support huh??

That's alright James ... no problem.
That's interesting about Young and Johnson. Most pitchers would kill to have an ERA under 2.25. Back then that was probably not as big of an accomplishment as it is now. I'd love to go back in time and see those guys pitch. It's amazing they had 45 decisions in a single season. Nowadays pitchers who make 35 starts are considered dependable.
