Collins tears ligaments in knee, is done for season
http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2002/1212/1476173.html

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Jazz backup center Jarron Collins will miss the rest of the season with torn ligaments in his right knee.

Collins injured the knee Thursday night in the second quarter of the Jazz's loss to the New Orleans Hornets. Collins jumped to block a shot by Eldon Campbell and the players collided on the way down, causing Collins to land awkwardly. Collins was helped off the court and did not return.

The initial report was a sprain, but on Friday an MRI showed Collins had ruptured the medial collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments as well as the medial meniscus. Jazz trainer Gary Briggs said Collins will be out 8-9 months.

Collins, a second-year player out of Stanford, backed up starter Greg Ostertag and averaged 5.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 22 games for the Jazz.

His injury leaves Utah with Ostertag and John Amaechi at center. Rookie Curtis Borchardt has been on the injured list all season as he recovers from foot surgery.

Career revival :smokin: he's the ideal player to play under Sloan :D. He's much better than i thought he was

hey doesn't Mark Jackson have to only record like a hundred or so assists to pass Magic? If he does, Utah would have the #1 and #2 all-time leaders in assists...how about that?! :bigsquare

Jazz expect to sign Massenburg to fill Collins' spot

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Jazz plan to sign journeyman forward Tony Massenburg to replace injured center Jarron Collins, who is out for the season with torn knee ligaments.

Massenburg, a 35-year-old who has played for 10 NBA teams in 10 seasons, flew to Salt Lake City on Saturday and took a physical. He shot around with the Jazz at the Delta Center before their game against the Sacramento Kings, but details on a contract were still pending.

"I was shocked. I didn't know anything about any of this until yesterday. My agent called me and basically said 'pack your bags,''' said the 6-foot-9 Massenburg, who can play forward and center.

Massenburg was waived in October by the Memphis Grizzlies, who opted for a younger roster. He has also played for the Spurs, Hornets, Celtics, Warriors, Clippers, Raptors, 76ers, Nets and Rockets.

Massenburg has averaged seven points and 4.9 rebounds in his 505 NBA games.
