Everything's still the same for me too. :(

hmmm.... could it be the version of the browser youre using?

I'm using what I believe is the most updated version of Explorer.

For a while I could see animated smileys moving. It must have been my ZoneAlarm setting, because when I renewed my free trial, I must have chosen different options this time, because now they do move. But others have disappeared, so I've been wondering it it's really my computer.

But other people see the same things I do. So either it's an Addicts problem, an Explorer problem, or mass hallucination......

hmmm... yeah its kinda strange!

No, no one is hallucinating:D

Over the last several weeks I have been trying to import all of the smilies to be off of my hard drive onto this server....So slowly but surely I am uploading all the smilies to a special forum I made...
Basically I saved all of the smilies to my hard drive and attached them as a file and then went back to the my Admin page and uploaded the smilies using the attached photo as the URL address if that makes scense to anyone......Basically what was happening was that I had all the smilies using the url addresses from the site from which I found them at....Problem with that is that every so often the site would change the url thus creating the box with the red X in it......So I would have to go back to that site and find the smilie and get the update url address...It was kinda a pain in the a$$....The last time about 8 changes happend on the same day and I was fed up....Bill suggested I do it this way.......
Now what I think may have been the problem, and hopefully it is fixed now, is that I had it as a private forum which only moderaters could see....I think that is why several of the Mods that went in here saw no problems like Ray and myself....

I changed the settings and hopefully now everyone should see all of the smilies....If not, then we have a problem....Please someone (non-mod) let me know if they are all working ok..

Thanks,
James

I'm soooo confused!!!

But yaaaayyy!! I can see them all!!!

But not all the moving ones are moving:

*moon isn't mooning
*clap2 isn't clapping
*rotf isn't rolling
*luvkiss isn't kissing
*devillook isn't looking
*nah isn't nahing, er I mean shaking his head
*lmao isn't laughing

but the red dancin guy is dancing again. He still scares me!

So James, you're almost there!

The moving smilies may be a problem with your computer settings...Shawn has this same problem where they dont move for him....

As far as I know, nothing I did should affect that.....

Anyone else who had a problem with the red X that can now see them but not moving?? Awe?? MW???

Let me know.....

RR -

Directly from Bill Gates (or one of his minions) -

Problem - Animated graphics quit working -

Hardware acceleration specifies the degree of acceleration you get for your graphic hardware. Decreasing the hardware acceleration setting can resolve some display problems.

To decrease the hardware acceleration for your display adapter -

1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.

2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced.

3. On the Performance tab, click the slider bar to lower the hardware acceleration setting to None.

4. Click OK, then click OK again to return to Control Panel.

5. Open the smilies page. After it loads, hit your refresh button (or F5 key) to make sure the page has re-loaded.

If this works, cool. If not, it's out of my league. Go back through the steps, and return the slider bar back to where it was. This should work, though, especially if you have added several components (DVD or CD drives, speakers, modems, etc.) to your computer. Most motherboards can handle a monitor, printer, keyboard, mouse and floppy drive, but after that, performance can suffer. It's worth a try...

Oh noooo....it's Paperclip Man!! Aaaaaaaahhhhh!!!

Bill, I've been posting about this problem since September. Where have you been??

I tried this, and the results are basically the same as what I had before. But I'm now getting a fatal exception in VXD error upon booting up, so I'm gonna put the settings back to how it was.

But thanks for the attempt anyway.

I'm really hesitant to give advice on computer settings, because what I'm comfortable messing with on my own machines does not mean someone else is. It's disturbing that you received a 'Fatal Exception Error', since you really shouldn't have noticed anything - it should have either worked - or not.

This would point to a couple of different things (at least) -

1. You have a 'resource hog' program running in the background, which you may or may not be aware of.

2. You have one or more corrupted driver files associated with your monitor or video card.

We could pursue this if you want, but it would be best if you know someone locally to help. Watching your monitor 'fade to black' is a pretty helpless feeling, and it's easy to do when messing with display settings. Your computer will be working fine, you just won't be able to see what it's doing. Not good.

This is almost too obvious, but worth mentioning. On your Explorer tool bar click Tools and then Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab and scroll down to Multimedia. Check to see that a checkmark appears in the box next to 'Play animations in web pages'.

While you're there, you mentioned in your 'Calendar' thread that you "couldn't read" the attachment I put there. Since I presume that you didn't mean that literally, I'm thinking your browser re-sized the image. Check to see that there is not a checkmark in the box next to 'Enable Automatic Image Resizing'.

Now, just hit the 'Apply' button and then 'OK'.

While I'm freely dispensing advice that's coming from who-knows-where, on your cookie issue -

In the same Internet Options window, select the Privacy tab. Under 'Settings', hit the 'Advanced...' button. Here you can block first and third party cookies, and still allow session cookies by placing a checkmark in the box indicated. This may be something you can live with. You can also control them by individual web sites by using the 'Edit' button under 'Web Sites'.

That is all.

I lied. Let me know if you can 'read' this screenshot of my monitor...

I'm very confused. For a change. But I do appreciate all your confusing advice. My brain just can't process any of it. :ugh:

I got a message the other day that I needed to do a Windows update, or there was one available, or something like that, so I just did what it said. Now I think all the smilies are working, except rotf isn't rolling. I thought it used to.
