I really like what McClatchy is doing. I think he learned his lesson from previous mistakes and that is a good sign. Examples:

Regarding a timetable on the GM position:

""If I gave a timetable, then people would hold me to it, kind of like that 90-win thing."

On possibily not finding the right guy:

"If for some reason I might not find the right candidate, I wouldn't put somebody in there just to put somebody in there," he said.

"When hiring a manager in October, McClatchy did not conduct a second round of interviews, selecting Lloyd McClendon from a pool of 10 candidates.

McClatchy said he would hold second interviews in this instance. "

This is a good read... I agree that it sounds, reading between the lines, like Kevin has learned a lesson here...

The thing that has me worried about this GM search is that Kevin appears to be going on a "fishing expedition" rather than honing in on 3-4 solid candidates based on that candidate's record and recommendations from knowledgeable baseball people. Last time Bucs went on a fishing expedition we wound up with Mac; Kevin should focus on Wren from Braves, Purpura from Astros, 1 or 2 of the A's candidates and he'd have a solid core of candidates to pick from.

I say get this over by the all-star break and let's get on with the rebuilding process. Hey Kevin this is not a personality contest; pick a candidate based on his track record not whether you like him!
