MVP~
Candidates: Duncan, Webber, Kidd, Nowitski, McGrady, Kobe
Right now I'd say its McGrady, with Kidd at a close second. T-Mac is the only reason the Magic are where they are (a playoff team), and he leads the league in scoring. The supporting cast of the other candidates are stronger than T-Mac's (with the exception of Kobe, since Shaq has been out a while, but Kobe is leading his team to last in his division so that takes him out of the running)

ROY~
Candidates: Yao Ming, Amare Stoudemire, Drew Gooden, Dujuan Wagner, Caron Butler, Jay Williams
i would say its between Ming and Stoudemire. I don't watch Phoenix all too much, so i don't know how Stoudemire is doing other than what the stats say, so i'd say right now it's Ming.

MIP~
Candidates: Matt Harpring, Ron Artest, Gilbert Arenas, Shawn Bradley, Ricky Davis
Gotta go with Ricky Davis

COY~
Candidates: Jerry Sloan, Isaiah Thomas (i can't believe it!), Byron Scott, Don Nelson
JERRY SLOAN!!! When will he ever win Coach of the Year? Utah has several new playersthis season, most of which were considered not as good as the players they replaced, and right now the Jazz have a chance at the number three seed in the West. GIVE SLOAN THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVES ALREADY!!!

Defensive Player of the Year~
Candidates: Ron Artest, Ben Wallace
RON ARTEST!!! :D

6th Man of the Year~
Candidates: Andrei Kirelinko, Michael Redd, Al Harrington
Kirelinko!

Biggest Surprise....
(for me) Ron Artest's sudden transformation into a scorer:eek:

Biggest FLOP...
Both LA teams (i expected both to be in the playoffs), and Toronto, who is yet to win 10 games...:ugh:

MVP- I can't say Kobe or T-Mac because the Lakers aren't even in the playoffs right now and the Magic are 8th. I will say Chris Webber because he has been the leader of team full of injuries and they are still number two in the league. His numbers are amazing and he's starting to be the kind of guy who shoots at the end of ball games.

ROY- Amare Stoudemire. The kids is flat out amazing. He's done more for his team than Yao for the Rockets. Their stats are very close so I say Amare because his SUns are better right now. But he won't win the award at the end of the year. How many games does a high schooler play? 30-40. How many has he played now? 36. He's gonna hit the wall very soon since he's so young.

MIP- I agree Ricky Davis has improved leaps and bounds from last year. Now if he could just get along with his teammates.

COY- I'm gonna say Rick Carlisle of the Pistons for the second straight year. He still has the less talent than a LOT of teams and they are 3rd in the East. Add the fact that he lost his best player and leader in Stackhouse in a trade makes him look that much better.

Defensive- Big Ben Wallace wins my vote. 15.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 2.8 blocks speak for themselves. That fact that he anchors the best defensive team in the NBA says a lot about how good he is.

6th Man- Andrei Kirilenko. He shoots, rebounds, steals, and blocks. He comes off the bench and can do it all for the Jazz.

Biggest Surprise- Phoenix being the current 4 seed in the West. These guys are playing very well. And Stephon is playing like the super star he always could have been.

Biggest Flop- Darius Miles. What happened to him becoming the self proclaimed poor man's T-Mac? The Cavs traded away one of the best PGs in the league for Miles who is falling further down Lucas' weak bench. Sad.

MVP- This is tough to say, but I'll have to go with Tracy McGrady. He is scoring points and is palyig hurt and making his team win, my runner up is Dirk Nowitzki.

ROY- I'll say Drew Gooden considering he is on Memphis. I just like him personally and I think he will be a star. My runner up is Caron Butler

MIP- Definately Ricky Davis. He has turned into a great p[layer this year and is headed for stardom. I hope the Raptos get him :D

COY- Don Nelson

Defensive Player of the year- I voted Ron Artest last year and I don't change my vote even though Ben Wallace might be more deserving

Sixh Man- Kirelenko

Biggest Surprise- I'll go with Lenny Wilkens going dumb and stupid.

Flop- The Toronto Raptors I dont care about the Lakers because they will probably turn it around but Carter might miss 3 more weeks so it's the Raptors.

Kobe's inability to win games killed his chances for MVP. Yes, he might be the best player, but like A-Rod in baseball, it means jack if you don't win.

are you crazy? kobe won like 2 games without Shaq. this award goes to the player who is most valuable to his team. Kobe is not most valuable to his team because it's obvious shaq is.

the award is given to the Most Valuable Player to his team. Kobe's team isn't even .500, and the Lakers only won like 4 games out of 15 without Shaq.

A-Rod didn't win the MVP in baseball despite obviously being the best player that year because his team was in last place. The argument against giving A-Rod the award was that you can't be the 'Most Valuable Player' to your team if your team would be in the same place without you: last place. Unless the Lakers go on a run and make the playoffs, both Kobe and Shaq shouldn't be seriously considered for the MVP award.

well.... the lakers are starting to win

The Lakers' winning streak:
@ Denver W 112-93
Toronto W 104-88
@ Phoenix L 107-93
Phoenix W 109-97
Seattle W 119-98
Cleveland W 115-99
Miami W 106-81
@ New Orleans W 90-82

not really impressive being they played only one team with a .500+ record, but seven outta eight is still good. The Lakers' big test will be the next eight games:

Fri 17 at Houston
Mon 20 LA Clippers
Wed 22 Golden State
Fri 24 New Jersey
Wed 29 at Phoenix
Fri 31 at Sacramento
Sat 1 Utah
Tue 4 at Indiana

very tough stretch. Aside from the Clipps and the Warriors, all of the games would be against playoff teams. Sac, Indy, and New Jersey are three of the top four teams in the league right now, and Utah, Phoenix, and Houston are all very capable of beating the Lakers. This could be the stretch that will either put them in position to make a run for the 7/8 seed in the playoffs or will pull them back down to the bottom of the division.

Just like milkey said, unless the Lakers (and Kobe) have an amazing second half, then we will start talking about MVP. the L akers are under .500 right now and I think the player should be at least over .500. Maybe someone Dirk or Kidd could also contend.

i heard in the Houston/Lakers game that the Lakers have gone like 15-11 with Shaq, which means they've only gone 3-9 without him. They've also shot like 7% better with Shaq. That just goes to show that Shaq is the Most Valuable Player on the Lakers.

How can Kobe be the MVP of the league if he's not hte MVP of his own team?
