ANAHEIM, Calif. (Jan. 10) -- The World Series champion Anaheim Angels have moved up their first game to March 30, making them the U.S. season opener to the major league season.

The game was moved to Sunday night from April 1. The Angels will host Texas, take Monday off, then finish the three-game series Tuesday and Wednesday.

Anaheim will unveil its World Series trophy and flag March 30 and the players will receive their championship rings April 2.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners have received permission from the commissioner's office and the players associating to open spring training early because of their season opener against Oakland in Tokyo. The baseball season starts March 25 in Tokyo with a two-game series between Oakland and Seattle.

Pitchers and catchers will report to the team's complex in Peoria, Ariz., on Feb. 9, with workouts starting the following day under new manager Bob Melvin.

Seattle could have asked players to report as early as Feb. 8, 45 days before the season opener against Oakland in Japan. Other teams can start on Feb. 13.

A's officials intend to start spring training as scheduled on Feb. 15-16.

Angels can show their trophy as much as they want. They just need to try to defend it this year. For some reason i dont know if a lot of people are expecting them to be as good this year :(
