Dodgers Invite 12 Non-Roster Players

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Dodgers have invited 12 non-roster players to spring training, a group that includes former big leaguers Calvin Murray, Quilvio Veras and Calvin Maduro.
Murray, a 31-year-old outfielder, began last season with the San Francisco Giants, going hitless in 12 at-bats before being traded to Texas. He batted .266 in 33 games at Triple-A Oklahoma and .169 in 37 games for the Rangers.
Veras, a 31-year-old switch-hitting infielder, spent last year rehabilitating from a knee injury. He played in 71 games for the Atlanta Braves in 2001, hitting .252 with 25 RBIs.
Maduro, a 28-year-old right-hander, made 12 appearances, 10 of them starts, for the Baltimore Orioles last season, going 2-5 record and a 5.56 ERA.
The other invitees are right-handers Bryan Corey, David Lee, and Rodney Myers; left-handers Troy Brohawn and Bryan Corey; infielders Larry Barnes, Chris Clapinski and James Loney, and catcher Mike Nixon.
