ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Second baseman Adam Kennedy, the MVP of the AL championship series last fall, agreed Tuesday to a $2.27 million, one-year contract with the Anaheim Angels.

Kennedy, who turned 27 last week, led the World Series champions with a .312 batting average last season, seventh in the AL. He hit .357 in the playoffs against Minnesota and in Game 5 became the sixth player to hit three homers in a postseason game.

"Adam was a key part of our success last season," Angels general manager Bill Stoneman said. "His postseason performance reinforced the quality of player we believed Adam to be."

The Angels acquired Kennedy and right-hander Kent Bottenfield from the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Jim Edmonds shortly before the start of the 2000 season. Kennedy was sixth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting that season.

The Angels have three players eligible to file for arbitration Wednesday: first baseman Scott Spiezio, and left-handers Jarrod Washburn and Scott Schoeneweis.

YAHOOOOOOO!!!! I like Kennedy's playing. His hitting has improved and he's the only good thing that came out of the Edmonds trade in 2000.

Definitely! Eck's throwing motion scares me, but he always seems to be in the right place. Kennedy has improved every year since he came over and we saw how clutch he was in the playoffs this year. Did you see the article rating the top ten infields? Angels were in the top 5!!!!!!!! I'm going to try and go to some spring training games this year. It's in Arizona and that's only 5 hrs or so from me. I'm going to try and talk my wife into it!!!!!

Slushy, take her to Sedona or some place like Rancho de los Caballeros north of Phoenix and it might be easier to talk her into the trip ... Very nice places, sort of on the uncheap side, but very nice ... Major brownie points for husbands.
